A new self-storage facility is under construction in Glen Head, where a new public library is also planned.
Spartanburg, S.C.-based Johnson Development Associates is building a three-story, 100,607-square-foot self-storage facility on the former site of an industrial building at 180 Glen Head Road.
Johnson Development paid $3.1 million for 2.25 acres of the property that used to be home to Halm Instrument Corp. The long-vacant building was demolished to make way for the development of the 900-unit self-storage facility that will be operated under the Life Storage brand and is slated to open next spring.
The remaining 2.6 acres of the Glen Head site, which is zoned residential and has a single-family house on the property, will be redeveloped into the new 11,000-square-foot home of Gold Coast Public Library.
The library is in contract to buy the property for $2.25 million and the sale is expected to close shortly.
In Dec. 2020, residents approved a $10.8 million bond to go towards the estimated $11.4 million project that will allow the library to relocate to a new building from its leased space by the Glen Head Long Island Rail Road station. Construction is expected to be completed by the end of 2022.
Neil Schorr of Realty Insight Group represented Johnson Development in the purchase of its portion of the Glen Head property, while Stephen Deutsch of Goodman Marks represented the library in its purchase and seller Halm Instrument Corp. in the sale of the entire site.
